Hitting the Road with New Braces

by | Nov 1, 2022 | Dental Care

Hitting the road with new braces can feel nerve-wracking! It’s totally normal to feel that way! In fact, many of our patients tell us that they feel nervous! But it’s no problem when you go prepared! Here’s your travel guide for your new braces.

New Braces Packing List

When you travel with braces, it’s important to pack all the essentials so that you always have what you need to take the best care of your smile. It can help to have a list so that you can check things off and be sure that you won’t forget anything.

The top items we typically recommend putting on your packing list when you’re hitting the road with braces include a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and extra floss threaders. Mouthwash and floss picks, or dental picks, can also be helpful for times when you might not be able to brush your teeth.

New Braces Care on the Road

When you’re traveling, it’s crucial not to let the change of scenery disrupt your good habits and that includes your dental care routine! Caring for your new braces on the road should look just like caring for your braces at home.

Like usual, make sure to brush your teeth after each meal and floss each day, as well, to prevent plaque and tartar from accumulating and putting your teeth at risk of cavities and gum disease. Keeping your teeth and braces clean will help to keep them looking and feeling their best!

It’s also a good idea to bring braces-safe snacks for the road just in case there isn’t braces-safe food on the way. That way, you won’t feel as tempted to dig into snacks that might put your braces at risk of damage at the worst possible time — when you’re far away from home and your orthodontist’s office.

Call Your Orthodontist!

If you have questions before hitting the road with braces, don’t hesitate to call your orthodontist and ask!
